My Teaching Life

Who I Was?

Hello! I am João, also known as 'Shamslux'. I am Brazilian, married, and a father of a beautiful 3-year-old boy. For about 8 years, I worked as a teacher in various educational levels, including high school and elementary schools in private institutions. I hold a degree in Portuguese and Modern Hebrew language and literature.

During my experience in the field of education, I developed skills that are still essential in my new area, including teaching, empathy, resilience, persistence, and communication. These helped me engage with clients, stakeholders, and peers effectively.

In 2020, my good friend Tulio Brasileiro introduced me to the Data world, particularly Business Intelligence. Encouraged by his advice and life reflections during the pandemic, I decided to pursue a new path.

With discipline and self-study, I followed online courses, built personal projects, and after starting a degree in Database Management, I secured my first internship in BI in October 2021.

Data Engineer Life

Who I Am Now?

After my BI internship, I was hired by a consulting firm where I had even more hands-on experience with SQL, BI methodology, various relational databases, and ETL tools such as Pentaho Data Integration and Apache Hop. During that period, I earned around four career promotions in just a year and a half.

I then took on a new challenge working as a Data Engineer, and later as an Analytics Engineer. Both experiences were incredibly enriching. I had the opportunity to handle different types of data pipelines with varying volumes and speeds, and to work with new tools such as Airflow, PySpark, and dbt. I also had the chance to operate in a large enterprise environment alongside cybersecurity and data governance teams, which helped me mature in managing processes involving these areas.

Currently, I have 4 years of experience in the Data field. With the rise of AI, I’ve been incorporating prompt engineering concepts into my skill set, finding real-world solutions by leveraging the best capabilities of LLMs to accelerate my impact. I’m also developing personal projects involving AI agents integrated into pipelines, and I plan to experiment with running open-source LLMs locally on my own hardware for educational purposes.
